The 10th anniversary of the Line 6 Helix is almost here, and there’s already buzz about what could be in store. Line 6 announced a live anniversary event happening on June 11, 2025, broadcast straight from their headquarters. And it’s shaping up to be more than just a nostalgic look back. Hosted by Tim Pierce and featuring a presentation by Eric Klein, Line 6’s Chief Product Design Architect, the livestream promises a deep dive into the evolution of the Helix platform and a look at how it continues to shape modern guitar rigs.

So, the big question: will we see a major update?

The timing couldn’t be better for a big firmware release. Helix Firmware 3.80 dropped in 2024, as we covered in this post. Many users are now wondering if the long-rumored Helix Firmware 4.0 could land on this milestone anniversary. While Line 6 hasn’t confirmed anything yet, the format of the event — especially with a special development segment planned — has people speculating. A major version number bump typically means more than just a few new effects or amp models. If Firmware 4.0 is real, it could bring significant new features and improvements. The 10-year mark could be the perfect moment to introduce something fresh to the Helix platform.

Shortly after the anniversary stream was announced, a thread appeared on the Line 6 Helix subreddit asking: “What’s gonna be revealed at the event?” Some users are hoping for new effects like JHS Pedals or the Crowther Hotcake. Others are dreaming up hardware changes — like a version of the Helix LT with 4–6 footswitches, no expression pedal, but full DSP power. There’s also plenty of talk about a possible firmware update, with a few suggesting it might even be the final one for the current Helix line. One idea that stood out was support for Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) — a technology that uses AI and machine learning to model guitar amplifiers. As exciting as that sounds, it seems unlikely at this point. Interestingly, there aren’t many voices expecting new hardware — but what if Line 6 is quietly preparing a Helix 2? Whatever the case, we’ll be watching closely.

For those who’ve never used a Helix before: it’s a flagship floor processor packed with amp modeling and effects processing, built on Line 6’s HX modeling engine. The core idea behind Helix is to offer deep signal chain customization, letting you route effects and amps in nearly any order, blend parallel paths, and control everything in real time with snapshots or MIDI. It’s also known for its dual-DSP architecture (in the full-size model), which allows for complex presets with multiple amps, cabs, and effects running simultaneously. Helix supports both traditional and FRFR setups, integrates well in studio environments via USB audio interface capabilities, and is compatible with impulse responses. Even after 10 years, it’s still evolving — which says a lot about how well Line 6 supports its hardware.

We spend a lot of time with the Helix platform — designing presets and pushing its capabilities to the limit. This kind of gear longevity is rare in the digital age, and the continued development is part of what keeps the Helix community active and growing. All attention now turns to June 11. If there’s a Firmware 4.0 or any surprise hardware in the pipeline, this is when we’re likely to hear about it. Until then, the countdown begins.
