UAD Capitol Studios puts Capitol’s Studios A and B, vintage microphones, consoles and four underground echo chambers inside one plug-in. UAD Capitol Studios models the whole recording chain
Capitol Studios models more than the reverb at the end of a signal chain. You can place vocals, drums, guitars and virtual instruments in Studio A or Studio B, then choose microphones and move them around the room. Dynamic Room Modeling changes the balance of direct sound, reflections and ambience as the microphone position moves. The included choices cover setups based on the U48, C12, U67, M50 and C800G.
The plug-in also provides console EQ and dynamics from both rooms, along with 1176LN, LA-2A and Capitol Mastering Compressor processing. EQ, compression and chamber stages can be placed in different orders, so one instance can handle the room and much of the following mix chain. Universal Audio’s Introducing: UAD Capitol Studios gives a short overview of the rooms, microphone movement and processing controls.

Reverb and Re-Mic modes solve different recording problems
Reverb mode keeps your original recording and places Capitol’s ambience around it. This suits a track whose microphone sound already works but needs more room depth. Re-Mic mode replaces the original microphone and room response, which gives you more control over dry or close-recorded material. Moving the virtual microphones then changes how close or spacious that source feels.
Strings, horns and vocal groups also get three ensemble microphone positions, including a Decca Tree setup. Its center and side microphones can be mixed separately, while live and tight wall settings change the room around the arrangement. Universal Audio’s The ULTIMATE Guide to Our Latest Studio Plug-In walks through the controls and shows how the different recording modes work.

No. Capitol Studios runs natively on your Mac or Windows computer, so Apollo and UAD-2 hardware are not required. It supports VST3, AU and AAX plug-in formats.
What is the difference between Reverb and Re-Mic modes?
Reverb mode keeps your existing microphone and room sound while adding Capitol’s ambience. Re-Mic mode replaces that original response with a modeled microphone and room setup from Studio A or B.
