15 iconic KORG instruments for just a few hundred dollars — is that even possible? In a way, yes. KORG offers VST versions of many of its most beloved keyboards, well-known among players and producers alike. 


Of course, we all love our hardware synths — but try fitting even a few of them into a backpack. You might not even fit them into a car, unless you’re driving a truck. With plugins, that problem disappears. Toss a laptop and a small MIDI controller into your bag, and you’re ready to take your favorite sounds anywhere. M1


The KORG M1, originally released in 1988, was a groundbreaking music workstation that shaped the sound of the late ’80s and ’90s. With its PCM-based synthesis, built-in multi-effects and an 8-track sequencer, it introduced a new way of composing and producing music in one self-contained unit. The KORG Collection M1 V2 brings this iconic instrument into the modern era as a software plugin, featuring a high-resolution, scalable interface and over 3,300 presets, including all original expansion cards.

This version faithfully recreates the original AI synthesis system, not just by sampling, but by modeling the circuitry down to the finest detail. It also adds features that weren’t available on the original, such as filter resonance, VDA modulation, and a greatly expanded effects section with 18 insert effects. The updated interface supports Retina and 4K displays, while a new Easy Mode lets users quickly adjust key parameters without diving deep into menus. Despite these modern upgrades, the plugin remains compatible with the original M1 and the iPad version via SysEx, allowing users to revisit classic sounds in a contemporary production setup.



Wavestation


The KORG Wavestation, first released in 1990, introduced a revolutionary approach to synthesis with its vector synthesis and wave sequencing technologies. It allowed users to morph between four oscillators using a joystick and arrange waveforms into rhythmic or melodic sequences, making it a unique and expressive instrument that remains iconic to this day.

The KORG Collection Wavestation V2 updates the original 2004 software version for modern production needs. It features a high-resolution, scalable interface and includes over 1,500 presets and more than 700 waveforms, incorporating sounds from all hardware models and expansion cards. Rather than relying on samples, KORG faithfully modeled the original circuitry and every parameter to recreate the distinctive sound of the hardware Wavestation in software form.


The new version is optimized for Retina and 4K displays, with major GUI improvements that enhance usability. A redesigned program browser makes it easy to navigate the massive library using tags for instrument type and sound character. For those looking for quick inspiration, a random sequence generator creates new patches with a single click. 



TRITON


The KORG TRITON, launched in 1999, quickly became a go-to workstation for top producers, known for its expressive PCM sounds and massive library of ready-to-use presets. Used across countless hits in the 2000s, the TRITON helped define the sound of an era. Now available as part of the KORG Collection, the TRITON and TRITON Extreme have been faithfully recreated in software, capturing every detail of the original HI (Hyper Integrated) synthesis system.

This software version reproduces the original’s 48kHz PCM samples, dual filters, five insert effects, two master effects, and a powerful EQ section. Developed under the supervision of the original engineers, it maintains the sonic texture that made the hardware so beloved. With over 4,000 preset sounds—including all eight EXB-PCM expansions—the TRITON Collection is packed with instantly usable patches, ideal for producers looking to tap into that signature sound.


A redesigned sound browser and Easy Mode interface streamline the workflow, letting users quickly find and tweak sounds without diving deep into menus. While the plugin doesn’t include the hardware’s sequencer, it features the same dual arpeggiator with 307 built-in patterns, from drum grooves to melodic riffs. The TRITON Extreme version also brings the warmth of its original Valve Force vacuum tube circuit into the plugin, making this the most powerful version of the TRITON to date.

MS-20


The KORG MS-20, first released in 1978, is a legendary analog semi-modular synth known for its aggressive character, self-oscillating filters, and flexible patching system. Beloved for its gritty, punchy tone and hands-on design, the MS-20 remains a favorite among producers and sound designers to this day.

The MS-20 V2 in the KORG Collection is a refined version of the 2004 software emulation, now upgraded for modern setups with a high-resolution, scalable interface and two new multi-effects. Powered by KORG’s CMT (Component Modeling Technology), the plugin goes beyond traditional modeling by digitally replicating each individual circuit component, faithfully capturing the MS-20’s raw analog behavior and sonic depth.

Polysix


The KORG Polysix, introduced in 1981, was a breakthrough analog synth known for its lush, fat sound and user-friendly design. With six voices of polyphony—one more than most of its contemporaries—plus built-in effects like chorus, phaser, and ensemble, it stood out in its time and quickly became a global hit. The simple layout (1VCO, 1VCF, 1VCA, 1EG) made it ideal for creating beautiful pads and strings with ease.

The Polysix V2 in the KORG Collection refines the original 2004 software version, now updated for modern systems with a high-resolution, scalable interface and two new multi-effects. Thanks to KORG’s CMT (Component Modeling Technology), the plugin goes far beyond basic emulation by replicating the original circuitry at the component level—capturing the authentic tone and behavior of the hardware.


Enhanced with 32-voice polyphony, 16-voice unison, MIDI clock sync, and external modulation, the software version offers a level of flexibility the original never could. It now includes 21 high-quality effects and 127 effect programs, significantly expanding its sonic palette. microKORG


The microKORG, first released in 2002, quickly became one of the most iconic hardware synthesizers ever made—praised for its compact design, rich analog-modeled sound, and powerful vocoder. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, KORG has reintroduced the original microKORG as a software plugin, faithfully recreating its look, sound engine, effects, arpeggiator, and signature vocoder.

This software version brings all the core features of the original: two oscillators per voice, classic waveforms, DWGS synthesis, modulation capabilities like ring mod and sync, and four filter types including a 24dB low-pass. The amp and envelope sections allow full control over volume, panning, and shaping the sound’s evolution over time. Two LFOs offer tempo-syncable modulation, and the virtual patch matrix lets users route eight modulation sources freely for deeper sound design.


The vocoder function has been fully recreated, with detailed control over each frequency band and real-time visual feedback. You can shape, shift, or even freeze formants, opening up a wide range of creative vocal effects. The arpeggiator is also deeply flexible, with six playback modes, step control, and customizable timbre layering.


The plugin features two effect units with flanger/chorus, ensemble, phaser, and three delay types, plus a 2-band EQ. A modern GUI displays all controls and parameters clearly—envelopes, oscillators, patches, LFOs, and vocoder settings—all with visual feedback for easier editing than ever before.

It includes 200 presets ranging from sharp leads and deep basses to iconic sequences, with a Favorites system for quick recall. Visually, you can switch between the three classic ARP Odyssey designs (Rev1, Rev2, Rev3), each tied to its own filter character—something no single hardware version ever offered.



miniKORG 700S


KORG miniKORG 700S native is a faithful software recreation of KORG’s first mass-produced synth from the 1970s, known for its warm, musical tone and unique design. Originally monophonic with 2 VCOs and the distinctive “Traveler” filter, the miniKORG 700S stood out for its unconventional envelope control and rich, analog character.

The software version expands on the original with polyphony, unison, stereo spread, analog instability, and a powerful virtual patch system with up to eight mod routings and 80 destinations—including effects. Three LFOs and three ADSR envelopes provide deep modulation options, while five stompbox-style effects (distortion, EQ, chorus/flanger/ensemble, delay, reverb) extend the sonic range.


Over 150 presets cover vintage leads, basses, and complex modern textures. The UI faithfully mimics the original synth in both 2D and 3D, with adjustable screen sizes and full MIDI CC support for hands-on control in any production setup.



EP-1


KORG EP-1 is a powerful plugin version of KORG’s renowned electric piano engine, first introduced in the KRONOS workstation. Powered by Multi-Dimensional Synthesis (MDS), EP-1 offers unmatched realism by capturing and resynthesizing every nuance of classic electric pianos—responding smoothly to dynamics, touch, and performance details like hammer noise or key-off release.

KORG ARP 2600 is a meticulously crafted software recreation of the legendary semi-modular analog synth, faithfully modeled using KORG’s Component Modeling Technology (CMT). It captures every nuance of the original—distinctive waveforms, nonlinear quirks, both 4012 and 4072 filters, envelope behaviors, and even subtle hardware imperfections—offering unmatched authenticity. You can even recreate original Patch Book sounds with near-perfect accuracy.

This modern reimagining expands on the original with polyphony (up to 16 voices), a second filter, drive, motion sequencing, looping DAHDSR envelopes, an arpeggiator, 30-slot mod matrix, extensive MIDI integration, and 31 insert effects—including reverb, tape delay, amps, and shimmer. A redesigned GUI improves clarity and learning, with optional color-coded panels, cable hints, and detailed on-screen help.


Beyond faithfully preserving the soul of the 2600, KORG added thoughtful enhancements like oscillator sync, filter modes, modulation multipliers, and patch-panel MIDI control—all while keeping the original’s quirky layout intact. This is more than a replica; it’s a powerful, expressive synth that respects its roots while pushing far beyond them.



Mono/Poly


KORG Mono/Poly V2 is a modernized software version of the iconic 1981 analog synth, known for its rich 4-VCO architecture and the rare ability to switch between mono and polyphonic modes. Reproduced using KORG’s Component Modeling Technology (CMT), it delivers the same thick, characterful sound—complete with oscillator sync, cross-modulation, chord memory, and an arpeggiator.

The updated plugin supports up to 128-voice polyphony and 16-voice unison, with multiple key assign modes including unison, poly, chord memory, and the original Mono/Poly voice distribution. An expanded virtual patch system lets you route 159 modulation sources to 35 destinations.

KORG Prophecy brings the legendary 1995 physical modeling synth into the modern era as a powerful software plugin. Originally known for pushing beyond analog limitations with its expressive MOSS (Multi-Oscillator Synthesis System), Prophecy now offers expanded features, full polyphony, and a streamlined interface for today’s music production.

The plugin faithfully reproduces five oscillator types from the original hardware, including analog-style, VPM, cross/ring/sync mod, and three physical modeling types (brass, reed, plucked string). Each model can be shaped with nonlinear wave shapers, sub and noise oscillators, and dual mixers.
