Native Instruments has launched Massive XL, the latest version of its flagship wavetable synthesizer. Building on Massive X, the new instrument introduces AI-powered preset generation, custom wavetable import, expanded effects, and workflow improvements aimed at making sound design faster and more flexible.

Expanded Synthesis and New Creative Tools
Massive XL retains the flexible synthesis engine of Massive X, featuring 10 oscillator modes, advanced modulation, and customizable signal routing. The update adds over 100 new wavetables, 100 noise tables, and the ability to import custom audio material to create new wavetables.

One of the biggest additions is Preset Generator, an AI-powered tool that analyzes an imported audio file and generates four editable synthesizer patches. Users can adjust how closely the results match the original sound using the Match/Imagine control, while built-in stem separation provides additional possibilities for working with complex audio.
The new Mutator combines elements from existing presets to generate fresh variations, while Randomizer adjusts parameters without changing the patch structure. Both tools allow selected components to remain locked during the process.
Improved Workflow, Effects, and Presets
Massive XL introduces a redesigned editing interface with animated modulation indicators, improved parameter information, and a full undo/redo history. Users can also save individual filter, effect, and modulation configurations for use in other patches.
The effects section has been expanded with processors including Raum, Replika Shimmer, and Tape Wobble, bringing additional reverb, delay, and lo-fi processing options directly into the synthesizer.
The instrument includes 1,000 factory presets, covering basses, leads, pads, sequences, and experimental textures. Existing Massive X presets and expansions remain compatible, allowing users to continue working with their previous libraries.

Pricing and Availability
Massive XL is available now for Windows and macOS, supporting VST, VST3, AU (macOS), and AAX formats. The synthesizer is priced at $199, with introductory offers available at launch. Existing Massive X users can also purchase an upgrade.
Massive XL will also become part of the Native Instruments 360 subscription offering in 2027.
